Growing up in Michigan has given me a deep appreciation for Fall. Most of my favorite memories of Michigan involve long walks through vibrant forests, crisp air that turned my nose red, crunchy leaves, roasted almonds and hot spiced apple cider...

A lot of people look at fall as something sad or melancholy as everything begins to die before winter. But it's not so! This is the final frenzy from flora and fauna as everyone scurries to prepare for winter. There is so much to do, so much going on! Even the wind seems to push us on, hurrying us along that sweeping path toward the cold and dark months ahead.

Materials used:
Shoe box
Paper
Balsa wood
White glue
Black and gold sharpies
Water colors

i was thinking about doing this! looks so cool / awesome, wat kind of paper do you use.. and how long does it usually take.. i was thinking about doing it for an english project

Thanks! I use scrapbooking paper, since it's thicker and meant to last. These can take anywhere from 12 hours to over 50, like this one did.

Awww, thank you! These can take a long time. This one in particular was 4 weeks--1.5 weeks of drawing/planning and 2.5 weeks of cutting/gluing/structuring. Over 50 hours in total.

I've been around the world, but Michigan's beauty will always be home to me. And it's definitely the most beautiful during fall! Awesome piece! You captured so much emotion and brought back so many happy memories!
